High-Bay Security Cage Netting Installation for Server Storage Facility

Custom Overhead Security Netting System Installed Over 200’ Storage Cage Footprint

When a growing facility needed to secure valuable server and technology inventory inside a large warehouse footprint, DockStar Industrial delivered a custom-engineered high-bay security cage netting system designed to protect stored equipment while maximizing usable warehouse space.
Rather than constructing a traditional full-height rigid enclosure, the customer required a more efficient solution that would provide overhead containment and theft deterrence above an existing cage perimeter—without compromising visibility, accessibility, or facility layout.
DockStar partnered with the project team to design and coordinate a large-scale suspended netting installation spanning approximately 200 feet in length, creating a fully enclosed overhead barrier above the security cage footprint.

The Challenge: Securing High-Value Inventory in a Tall Warehouse Environment

The facility was storing valuable server and technology equipment within a dedicated warehouse cage area but needed a way to secure the vertical airspace above the enclosure.

With 34-foot ceiling heights and a large footprint to cover, the customer faced several challenges:

  • Preventing unauthorized access over the top of the cage
  • Maintaining visibility into the secured storage area
  • Avoiding the cost of full rigid structural cage extensions to the roof deck
  • Designing around existing warehouse clearances and roof structure
  • Coordinating installation with other trades already mobilized on site

Traditional wire partition systems alone would not provide complete top-to-bottom security given the ceiling height and project scale.

DockStar’s Solution: Custom Suspended Security Netting System

DockStar engineered a custom overhead netting solution to match the exact footprint of the previously quoted security cage layout, creating a practical and cost-effective way to secure the area vertically while integrating with the fixed cage panels below.

Scope of Solution Included:

  • Custom-fit Dyneema #6 overhead security netting
  • Netting layout designed for approximately 200′ x 40′ secured area
  • Horizontal support cables spaced every 8 feet
  • Vertical support cable system extending to roof structure
  • Wall cable anchoring with wedge anchors and eye nuts
  • Perimeter attachment to fixed cage fencing
  • Coordination with installer already mobilized for panel installation

This created a fully enclosed overhead containment/security barrier while minimizing structural complexity and overall project cost.

Smart Coordination Saved the Customer Time and Money

One of the key advantages of this project was DockStar’s ability to coordinate with the customer’s installer during the cage panel installation process.

Because the installer was already scheduled to install the fixed cage panels, the team was able to:

  • Combine mobilization efforts
  • Reduce duplicate labor costs
  • Streamline installation scheduling
  • Improve project timeline efficiency
  • Eliminate unnecessary delays between trades

This type of project coordination is a major part of DockStar’s value beyond simply supplying equipment.

Why Overhead Netting Was the Right Fit

For facilities with tall ceilings and valuable inventory, overhead netting can provide significant advantages over extending rigid wire partitions all the way to the roof.

Benefits of the Netting Security System:

Custom engineered to facility dimensionsd efficient.

Lower installed cost than full rigid-height cage extensions

Maintains open visual appearance in warehouse

Preserves sprinkler and lighting effectiveness

Allows flexibility for large-footprint coverage

Provides theft deterrence and overhead containment

Frequently Asked Questions:

Why use overhead netting instead of extending the cage to the ceiling?

Overhead netting provides a more cost-effective way to secure tall warehouse spaces without requiring rigid framing or full-height wire partition walls.

How high can warehouse security netting be installed?

Security netting can be installed in high-bay facilities with ceiling heights well over 30 feet, depending on structural support conditions.

What types of facilities use overhead security cage netting?

Common applications include data centers, server storage, electronics warehousing, pharmaceutical inventory, and high-value industrial parts storage.

How much does a project like this cost?

Project cost varies based on footprint, ceiling height, structural conditions, and installation requirements. Large custom netting/security cage projects typically range from several thousand to tens of thousands of dollars.

Can DockStar coordinate installation with other trades?

Yes. DockStar frequently coordinates with GCs, installers, and subcontractors to streamline scheduling and reduce overall project costs.
