Definition

A K-Rail, also known as a Jersey barrier, is a modular, precast concrete barrier with a trapezoidal cross-section, used to channel vehicle traffic, mark off restricted areas, or provide a physical barrier against vehicle intrusion in yards, staging areas, and facility perimeters.

What Does K-Rail Mean?

K-Rail and Jersey barrier are essentially the same thing, with some regional and technical differences in cross-section shape between the two. Both rely on sheer weight, typically several thousand pounds per section, rather than anchoring, to resist being pushed or driven through.

Common placements include yard traffic lanes, trailer staging areas, protecting building corners or exposed utilities from vehicle strikes, and temporary construction or laydown zones.
