E&S Sales New Store High-Speed Door Package

High-Speed Freezer and Cooler Doors for New Store Construction

A global food and beverage manufacturer partnered with DockStar Industrial to modernize its Florence, SC facility by replacing outdated dock doors and a failing leveler with durable, energy-efficient equipment built for reliability. From site prep to final welds, DockStar handled every step with precision, safety, and long-term performance in mind.

Stage 1: Project Overview

E&S Sales is a long-standing bulk foods, deli, bakery, fresh produce, and specialty grocery destination in Shipshewana, Indiana. Founded in 1986, the business has grown into a well-known local market serving both residents and visitors with bulk foods, fresh meats, cheeses, bakery items, produce, snacks, spices, candy, and everyday kitchen staples.

As E&S Sales prepared for its new store project, the team needed a reliable high-speed door package to support back-of-house cold storage operations. The project required freezer and cooler doors that could help maintain temperature separation, support frequent product movement, and integrate into a busy retail food environment.

Stage 2: The Challenge

E&S Sales operates in a high-traffic food retail environment where cold storage access is critical. The store sells fresh meats, cheeses, produce, bakery items, and bulk food products, making dependable cooler and freezer access an important part of daily operations.

For the new store, the project team needed a door solution that could help support:

  • Frequent employee movement in and out of freezer and cooler areas
  • Temperature control for refrigerated and frozen storage zones
  • Efficient product handling behind the scenes
  • Reliable door performance in a busy grocery and food-service environment
  • A clean installation plan coordinated with the builder and jobsite team
  • Clear activation methods for different door locations

The project also required attention to field details. Based on the project activity notes provided, DockStar participated in multiple coordination meetings in late March and early April with Duane, Kyle, and the builder to review door quotes and project details. A more recent site meeting was held with Nato, the job foreman, on April 22, 2026, to discuss bucking details.

Stage 3: DockStar’s Solution

Designed Around Real Store Traffic

The freezer and cooler doors were selected with motion sensor and pull cord activation depending on the location, helping match each opening to the workflow, traffic pattern, and access needs of the new store.

Stage 4: Installation & Coordination

DockStar’s role included coordination around installation requirements, opening preparation, activation placement, and jobsite access. The scope included mechanical fastening of the doors, mounting of activation devices, and wiring between the doors and control boxes, with power coordination handled by others.

Because high-speed door performance depends on proper opening preparation, DockStar also worked with the project team to review bucking details and ensure the installation approach aligned with site conditions.

Project Impact

The high-speed door solution was selected to help E&S Sales improve back-of-house workflow in the new store while supporting the demands of cold storage operations.

The project supports:

  • Long-term performance in a busy food retail environment
  • Faster movement in and out of cooler and freezer spaces
  • Better separation between temperature zones
  • Improved efficiency for team members handling product
  • A cleaner, more professional back-of-house operation

Why It Matters

For grocery, deli, bakery, and bulk food operations, cold storage access plays a major role in daily productivity. A well-planned high-speed door system helps reduce delays, protect temperature-sensitive areas, and support employees as they move product throughout the facility. By partnering with DockStar Industrial, E&S Sales received a coordinated door package built around the needs of its new store and the pace of a high-traffic food retail operation.

Frequently Asked Questions:

What are high-speed cooler and freezer doors?

High-speed cooler and freezer doors are fast-opening doors designed for temperature-controlled spaces. They help reduce air exchange, support temperature separation, and improve traffic flow in cold storage areas.

Why use high-speed doors in a grocery or food retail facility?

High-speed doors help employees move product in and out of cooler and freezer spaces more efficiently while limiting the time openings are exposed. This can support better workflow and temperature control.

What is the difference between cooler doors and freezer doors?

Cooler doors are designed for refrigerated spaces, while freezer doors are built for colder environments that may require additional features to handle freezing temperatures and condensation concerns.

What activation options are available for high-speed doors?

Common activation options include motion sensors and pull cords. Motion sensors are helpful for busy openings, while pull cords offer simple operator-controlled access. The E&S Sales project included both activation types.

How much do high-speed cooler and freezer doors cost?

The cost of high-speed cooler and freezer doors depends on the door size, temperature rating, activation method, installation requirements, and project scope. A custom quote is usually needed because freezer doors, cooler doors, controls, power requirements, and installation conditions can vary by facility.

Are high-speed doors good for cold storage areas?

Yes. High-speed doors are a strong choice for cold storage because they open and close quickly, helping reduce temperature loss and improve access for employees moving products through the facility.

Who installs high-speed cooler and freezer doors?

High-speed cooler and freezer doors should be installed by an experienced door or loading dock equipment provider. Proper installation includes opening preparation, fastening, activation placement, control wiring, and coordination with site power requirements.
